             Materials & Abbreviations

What You’ll Need

Yarn: Medium weight (Level 4) cotton yarn.

Hook: 5.0mm (H) wooden or ergonomic hook.

Tools: Yarn needle and sharp scissors.

Abbreviations (US Terms)

MR: Magic Ring

ch: chain

dc: double crochet

sl st: slip stitch

st: stitch

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: The Base

Round 1: Make a MR. Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch). Work 12 dc into the ring. Pull the tail tight to close the center hole. Sl st to the first dc to join. (12 sts)

Your first round should look like a tight, neat circle.

        

Step 2: Increasing

Round 2: Ch 2. Work 2 dc into every stitch around. Sl st to the top of the first dc to join. (24 sts)

         Step 3: The Border

Round 3: Ch 1. Work a sl st into every stitch around. This creates a clean, reinforced edge. Fasten off and weave in your ends using your yarn needle.

         Pro-Tip for Beginners

"If your coaster is curling up like a bowl, your tension is too tight! Try to relax your grip on the yarn or move up to a 5.5mm hook."
